Valentines Day Dinner at Home

My tip of the week is this: Don’t go out for dinner to celebrate Valentines Day.  Years ago, my husband and I went out for dinner on Valentines Day.  The restaurant was crowded and we waited a long time for a table.  It wasn’t a super positive experience.  After that Valentines date we decided that we would beat the crowds, save some money on both dinner and a babysitter, and enjoy a wonderful meal at home.  So, our tradition became that to celebrate Valentines Day we make a delicious steak dinner complete with sauteed mushrooms and onions, garlic mashed potatoes, spinach and strawberry salad, and asparagus.  Back in the day, we would eat later in the evening when it was closer to the children’s bedtime.  We would send the children upstairs and were fortunate that they stayed there.  Now, of course, as empty nesters there are no problems with children joining our dinner and we eat when we want to.  You don’t of course have to eat steak and you could even order pick up or do Doordash these days for your meal.  You can even have another couple join you which is what we are doing this year.  Try it out!  With prices for restaurant meals increasing and the fact that Valentines Day is on a Friday this year, you may see some great advantages to an at-home meal.  I’d love to hear how it went.  Happy Valentines Day!!!
