Children are full of energy. They are constantly moving, learning, and doing all kinds of things. So why is it that as adults we don’t keep moving, learning, and doing things like kids do? The answer is simple. We sit out. If you’re at an event, like a wedding, and a dance is going on, what are the majority of adults doing? They’re sitting out while the young crowd is grooving on the dance floor. If you go to a picnic and there are games, what are the adults doing? Sitting out. How about at the park? The adults sit while the kids play. What about the swimming pool? The kids are playing and the adults are sitting. You get the picture. I understand. Sometimes, we just want to relax but unfortunately when you get into the habit of relaxing everywhere you go you also get into the habit of not doing things. It’s an easy trap to fall into. It’s also a boring trap that leads to inactivity and minimal brain stimulation. My husband is one of the most energetic men you will ever meet. He can go, go, go. He loves doing things and participating in whatever is going on. In fact, one of his mantras is “Don’t sit out”. As a result of this mantra, his life (and mine) is much more enjoyable and exciting. Taking on the “Don’t sit out” mentality for some of us requires getting out of your comfort zone and pushing yourself to do something you think you don’t want to do. Doing this doesn’t sound fun but in the end you will find events far more enjoyable and realize that when you don’t sit out life is so much better.
So the next time you’re at an event and you’re just sitting there, get up!!! Go have some fun! You’ll be glad you did.
