For all that cleaning your dishwasher does for you, did you know you owe your dishwasher a little love in return?
Number one thing I didn’t know for entirely too long is that there is a filter in the bottom of your dishwasher. It serves to protect the pump from being clogged by food debris. It cleans and clears food from circulating in the dishwasher keeping food from landing and resticking to your dishes.
Luckily it is really easy to remove and clean. While I saw some general recommendations to do this as often as weekly, your owner’s manual (or the company website) can help you know how often this should be done for YOUR dishwasher – and after looking at instructions for most major brands weekly seems like overkill.
For example Bosh recommends cleaning the filter 3-6 times/year if you rinse before loading, 4-12 times/year if you only scrape before loading and 12 times/year if you have hard water.
Here are links to information on cleaning the filter for many of the major dishwasher brands:
So clean your filter and see if your dishes come out a little more sparkling clean!!
