Buy Fabric Online??

If you enjoy doing crafting at all, you have probably seen all the chatter about JoAnn’s going out of business. There are other craft stores out there – but there are not a lot of places to buy apparel fabric locally where I live. I love to support local if I can get what I need. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Buying fabric online always seemed pretty intimidating to me – and honestly, there can be a bit of a learning curve. But, if you pay attention to what different types of fabric are, you can feel confident in no time! Sometimes I even save and label a scrap of different fabrics to create a fabric library I can refer to when I am shopping again. So – my tip of the week this week is to try ordering fabric online!

Here are some of my favorite online fabric retailers:

Minerva.com – Minerva is actually located in the UK – however, they have an amazing selection of fabrics and shipping is not really any more expensive than from shops in the US. It does usually take about 2 weeks to get my orders – but if I can’t find it anywhere else, odds are good that Minerva will have it. The photo at the beginning of this post is of my most recent Minerva make. In addition, Minerva has an amazing website that enables social media style sharing of your makes – and then you can tag products in your posts. This means that for any given fabric, there will probably be pictures of it made up into something along with a description of how the person liked it and what working with it was like. I am a brand ambassador for Minerva – but I have no reservations recommending them. You can check out my Minerva profile and see what I’m talking about.

The next few shops all have Facebook groups – so you can often see what people have made using their fabrics in the FB group. Check it out! It can be really inspiring!!

Raspberry Creek Fabrics and KnitFabric.com – these are my go tos for knit fabrics (if I didn’t get it from Minerva lol!).

Surge Fabric Shop – I have bought some beautiful wovens from them – but they are also my go to for some great athletic knits (think leggings).

That’s enough to dip your toes in! Do you have questions about shopping for fabric online? Give it a go, and let me know how it goes!
