3M Command Strip Picture Hangers

I remember Christmas of 1977 when my grandmother had just gotten her first microwave. My mom asked my aunt how Grandma was liking it and my aunt said, “It’s the most expensive bread box ever!” Her way of telling us that my Grandmother was having a tough time learning new processes – she had cooked her whole life without a microwave – why would she need one now?

I was reminded of this story when I needed to hang a picture last week and went to get the nails and hammer. WAIT!!! NAILS AND HAMMER??? Why am I still doing it this way?? Why would I want to put a hole in my wall when I could use the 3M Command Strip picture hangers?

So…the tip of the week is – try the 3M Command Strip picture hangers!! The package has great instructions – which you should follow to ensure everything stays where you want it.

Some cautions not on the package –

  • Wait for fresh paint to cure 28 days before using
  • Don’t use old ones (can you see where my picture frame is glued back together in the upper right corner??). They get less sticky over time (one source said not to use after package has been open a year – I looked this up AFTER my picture fell off the wall). So maybe buying smaller packs is the way to go for these.
  • If I had an expensive frame or electronic equipment, I might go old school and use the tried and true nails or screws.
  • Make sure you know how to remove them. I see complaints from time to time from people saying they don’t come off cleanly. I have never had this problem when removing them as per instructions (pull tab straight down – not out- until it completely releases from surface)

I love that they don’t leave holes and they are super easy to level. There it is – saving one wall at a time. The wall-patcher at your house is going to love you!!
